Six Trusted Friends

Here’s a nice project management rhyme (that I saw in Eric Verzuh’s The Fast-Forward MBA in Project Management).

I keep six honest serving men,
(They taught me all I knew)
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.

– Rudyard Kipling

Herding Cats explains them further, here is my abbreviated version.

  • What – is the scope of work for this project?
  • Why – does each work element exist?
  • When – will this work be started and completed?
  • How – will this work be accomplished?
  • Where – will this work be performed?
  • Who – will be performing the work?
